To ramp up about The Pussy Hat Project, read my previous blog here. The Pussy Hat is a fantastic knitting protest initiative whose inaugural day is fast approaching – and I mean inaugural in both senses of the word.

I’ve knitted three of these great pussy hats so far – the first for Tracey Erin Smith, Artistic Director of Soulo Theatre, who is bringing an entire bus of women down to the March on Washington on Jan 21, 2017. The participants on the Soulomobile, as Tracey is calling it, are going to march and then co-create a show about their experience.

Here are Tracey and Savoy Howe, founder of the Toronto Newsgirls Boxing Club, in the hats I knitted for them.

I shared the three pussy hats I’ve made so far on Facebook yesterday, each customized with a little something to make them unique. Someone suggested we should customize the pattern with a Canadian flag.  Well that is what Stitchpainter is for, is it not?

So here you go, Canadian knitter marcher friends!

The original pussy hat pattern is available on the Pussyhat Project website. Here’s a how-to video. Then, to make our Canuck variation, do a knit 2, pearl 2 ribbing for 4.25 inches, then work this Canadian flag pattern. I would recommend a fuchsia instead of red, and a pastel pink instead of white. Then finish off with pearl 2, knit 2, ribbing for another 4.25 inches.

You can also tweet and Instagram about your pussy hat with the hashtag #pussyhat.

Happy protest knitting, the Canadian way.
